The Inflation Reduction Act has passed into law and released $80 Billion for IRS upgradation. This means more IRS agents hired and trained, and greater screening for discrepancies in tax returns, especially for high earning individuals. With the larger volume of new IRS hires, even ordinary tax files can potentially be used for training new agents, especially if there are discrepancies in the returns.
Think of it as insurance. If you are a high-earning individual or business owner, chances are that you may be on the IRS radar. In addition, if you are employing aggressive or creative tax strategies to leverage the tax code to your advantage, your return may be pulled for an audit to ensure your strategy is bona fide. Having an Audit Defense plan ensures your return is defended well at no extra cost for the 3 years during which an IRS audit could possibly occur for that year’s return. You have peace of mind knowing your defense is in good hands, and the flat fee means there are no hidden costs regardless of how many extra hours the defense of your tax return could take.
No, it’s not mandatory. However, just like insurance, it helps secure you against the expensive scramble to defend your return in the eventuality of an audit, especially if you have a complex or aggressive tax strategy.
You need to have bought an Audit Defense Plan for your tax return, and you need to be an active client of Revo Taxpayer Advocacy in the year of an audit. This is to ensure that we have a thorough hold of your case and can defend your return effectively against the IRS.
